Bull & Butterfly

context

Bull & Butterfly is a California-inspired steakhouse in Los Angeles, blending the warmth of a traditional steakhouse with a contemporary, design-forward approach to food and hospitality. As they launched the new restaurant, they needed a visual identity that could capture the restaurant’s distinctive balance of hearty, rustic character and softer California-inspired elegance while complementing its thoughtfully designed interior and indoor-outdoor experience.

the ask

The new restaurant needed a complete brand presence that felt as intentional and elevated as the physical space, while giving Bull & Butterfly a memorable identity of its own within the competitive Los Angeles dining scene. The creative direction needed to find the visual balance between the “Bull” and the “Butterfly”—pairing the strength and familiarity of a steakhouse with a more feminine, unexpected sensibility inspired by California’s natural landscape. The identity also needed to translate seamlessly across the restaurant’s menus, signage, website, social channels, and launch communications.

the solution

I developed a visual identity inspired by collaged elements of nature, creating a balance of hearty organic forms, botanical imagery, and softer details that brought the Bull & Butterfly name to life. A palette of pinks and greens paired with natural textures gave the brand a fresh California sensibility while maintaining enough depth and warmth to feel appropriate for a steakhouse, and I carried the aesthetic across menu design, website design, signage, and supporting brand materials. I also art directed and edited photography for the website, social media, and press materials, creating a cohesive visual library that allowed the brand to tell a consistent story across both physical and digital touchpoints.
