Marvelous Market

context

Marvelous Market is a beloved specialty food market and bakery in the Washington, D.C. area that blends a gourmet market with the convenience of a grab-and-go format. After more than 25 years serving local communities, the brand embarked on a rebrand across its 12 locations and needed to evolve its visual and spatial experience while maintaining the authenticity and neighborhood connection that made it a local staple.

the ask

Marvelous Market needed a unified brand experience across 12 distinct locations without making each market feel identical or disconnected from its surroundings. The challenge was to create a flexible spatial and visual strategy that could establish consistency across the brand while allowing each location to reflect its neighborhood, customers, culture, and personality through thoughtfully curated design, merchandising, and storytelling.

the solution

I led the creative direction and spatial design strategy for the rebrand, developing a framework that allowed each market to function as its own experience within the larger Marvelous Market identity. I directed work across art direction, environmental graphics, interior design, architecture, branding, art curation, merchandising, menu boards, window graphics, in-store branding, and ambiance styling, tailoring the details to each location while maintaining a cohesive brand language. The result was a collection of differentiated neighborhood markets that felt connected as a brand while remaining visually and culturally rooted in the communities they served.
